Target 2020: ensuring wind power plays its part |

Il target europeo del 20-20-20 prevede che
entro i prossimi undici anni le fonti rinnovabili
siano responsabili del 34 per cento della generazione elettrica all’interno della Ue.
Per la sola fonte eolica questo significa raggiungere i 180 GW di potenza installata
(di cui 40 GW offshore), rispetto ai 65 già operativi nel 2008. Traguardo ambizioso
ma non certo impossibile. La European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), che firma questo articolo, assicura infatti che l’attuale quadro di riferimento (normativo, finanziario, tecnologico) consentirebbe di varcare la soglia dei 230 GW entro la fatidica data del 2020.
D’altra parte, già lo scorso anno, proprio il wind power ha prevalso su tutte le altre tecnologie,
in termini di nuova capacità installata in Europa, con una quota del 36 per cento (oltre 8,5 nuovi GW) rispetto al 29 per cento del gas (6,9 GW)
e al 18 per cento del fotovoltaico.
A fronte di queste luminose prospettive

The 2009 Renewable Energy Directive sets an EU target of 20% renewable energy production by 2020. In order to meet the 2020 targets, renewables and especially wind energy, the most mature renewable energy technology, will have to live up to their full potential and deliver ambitious results in only a decade.
At the same time, EU grid networks will have to be extended and adapted in order to handle the higher amount of renewables to come. This is the challenge now facing the sector, and public support will be essential to meet it.
THE EU'S CONTRIBUTION
According to the European Commission, achieving the 2020 target for renewable energy production will necessitate 34% of EU electricity coming from renewables (up from 15.2% in 2005), with wind providing the highest share. In order to achieve this objective, the installed total wind power capacity will have to reach 180 GW in 2020, up from 65 GW in 2008. The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) has a target of 230 GW of installed wind energy capacity in the EU in 2020.
This would provide 14-18% of Europe’s electricity and be a significant contribution towards the 2020 target. [...]
