After serious re-dimensioning of the investments in the oil&gas supply chain due to temporarily reduced demand for energy, it seems that during last months the train starts to move again.
Nuova Energia met with Tom Deckers, Rental manager in Atlas Copco. The Swedish multinational, worldwide leader in the production and marketing of compressed air equipment, present in 160 countries, invested recently heavily in products and services for the oil&gas industry. One of the interesting dynamics pointed out by Tom Deckers is the moving investments in upstream from
the North Sea to the Mediterranean on the European-African axle.

One of the important drivers in the Mediterranean development is the European need for energy
and this is translated in a lot of big pipeline projects and LNG projects. Some examples;
the gas pipeline connections between Algeria and South Europe and the more then 50 planned
LNG terminals in the Mediterranean area. Let us not forget the Levant countries, on the east boundaries of the Mediterranean, which are of strategic importance for the development and
access to the oil&gas reserves in Iraq. With the latest technology in exploration & production
on hand the developing Mediterranean countries can cover their internal energy needs and
the European growing demand for energy. To complete their internal supply chain they also need downstream installations, for which they can also count on the availability of more advanced
western technology compared to the European refineries, developed in the sixties”.
In this process Atlas Copco wants to be on the forefront and has the know-how available for a sustainable oil&gas development in the Mediterranean area.
